In this series, we speak to some of the girl bosses behind the brands in our BYDEAU gift boxes to find out their journey in creating the products.
Grace | The Tea Nomad Founder | Australia
1) Tell us something about yourself that people might not know about you!
I dont know! I'm a pretty open book… but maybe, that I was once the tallest in my class. If you meet me, you will see that at 5”1*, that was a long, long time ago.
*5"1 and a bit, almost 5”2. its an important point...
2) What does a normal day look like at The Tea Nomad?
I'm not sure I have a “normal” day, but it most likely starts and ends with tea!
Mornings are typically spent behind the computer, replying to emails and wholesaler enquiries and other admin and planning activities. After a mid-morning tea (literally), the middle of the day tends to be spent blending - testing out new blend creations, and making up new batches of our existing blends. This tends to lead into packaging and packing of orders, and then winding down with more time behind the desk (and probably, another cuppa, usually our Kyoto blend)- reliving past travels through photos, the notes and stories I jot down whilst travelling, and researching for our next adventure or blend creation.
3) Each of your blends is a love letter to a travel memory, what is one of your favourite memories and how did it inspire the flavour?
One of my very favourite travel memories, inspiring the blend that led me to the very idea of The Tea Nomad, is visiting the lavender fields in Provence during a year of travel that my husband and I embarked upon. The unbelievably photogenic Sénanque Abbey was the particular destination that led us to Provence, but the week spent meandering through the South of France, stumbling upon random fields of wild lavender, driving past bright and bold oversized sunflowers as far as the eye could see, drinking in the glorious sunshine and honey drenched tones of those picturesque french towns. It was a blissful sensory overload, an experience that words nor pictures seemed to do justice. Thus, the desire for creating our Provence blend was born. A bergamot black tea base paying homage to our love for earl grey; the tea that accompanies those irresistible french treats so well. But enhanced by dried lavender in it's intoxicatingly scented glory, and a pretty scattering of sunflower and pink rose petals. Vive le Provence!
4) What’s one thing that keeps you going?
Would it surprise you to say.. tea! That and planning for that next trip. Always, always… that next trip!
5) Which is your favourite BYDEAU arrangement and who would you gift it to?
Thanks Grace for sharing your story with us!
Hmm either The Hampton, whose classy chic prettiness I would give to one of my girlfriends who lives in New York as it reminds me of her. Or I would also love to gift The Marigold to all our Aussie friends living overseas, there is something about its bright summery colours that makes me think of Sydney, much like our Sydney blend!
We're proud to be working with so many talented brands for our BYDEAU gift boxes, keep an eye out on BYDEAU Buzz next month for more Q&A's with other bosses that are crushin' it.
